Hi, I'm Luis.
Software Developer & IT Professional
I build applications end-to-end with Next.js, TypeScript, React, and FastAPI — with work spanning machine learning, blockchain, and secure API design, shaped by a background in systems, networking, and security. Currently finishing my MSIT and looking for my next challenge.
Developer first.
IT operator second.
I'm Luis Alberto Colón — a software developer and IT professional finishing my Master's in Information Technology at the University of West Florida. I write code that solves real problems, and I understand the infrastructure it runs on.
Through founding NodeLink Technologies LLC, I've designed IT support systems, built MSP workflows from scratch, and developed tools that real businesses depend on — giving me the kind of production experience most junior developers don't have until year three on the job. Before that, eight years in the U.S. Army as a power-generation equipment repairer taught me to troubleshoot mission-critical systems under pressure.
My edge: I can ship full-stack features and reason about cloud architecture, network security, and system constraints. I don't need to be walked through how production environments work — I've built and maintained them.
Software Development
Full-stack apps with Next.js, TypeScript, FastAPI, and REST APIs — plus machine learning and blockchain projects built end-to-end.
Cybersecurity
DNS hardening, email authentication (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), endpoint protection, and external vulnerability scanning.
Cloud Infrastructure
AWS hands-on: VPC design, IAM policies, EC2 with Auto Scaling, CloudWatch monitoring, and RDS deployments.
Networking & IT
VLANs, firewall rules, DNS/DHCP, VPNs — deployed on real hardware including Ubiquiti environments.
What I work with
A full-stack skill set spanning development, cloud, networking, and security — built through coursework, personal projects, and running a real IT business.

Things I've built
Multi-tenant MSP monitoring dashboard with database-level security
A production-ready SaaS dashboard for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to monitor client health, ticket queues, and SLA metrics through a centralized pane. Data isolation is strictly enforced at the database layer using PostgreSQL Row-Level Security (RLS), ensuring robust multi-tenancy. Built with a modern stack featuring schema-first validation, automated CSV parsing, and secure PKCE authentication flows.
Key Features
- Multi-tenant architecture with Postgres Row-Level Security (RLS)
- Real-time client health monitoring (Devices, Tickets, Backups)
- SLA metric tracking and enforcement
- Secure authentication via Supabase (PKCE flow)
- Schema-first validation with Zod and Prisma
Machine learning intrusion detection with a live Raspberry Pi sensor
A network intrusion detection system that scores live traffic using GaussianNB, Decision Tree, and K-Means models trained on the NSL-KDD dataset, alongside a live Apriori association-rules pipeline. A Raspberry Pi 5 sensor running Suricata 7 and Zeek 8.2 (with hardened SSH) was deployed end-to-end, feeding real network traffic to the FastAPI ML backend through a custom transform script and a POST /score/live endpoint.
Key Features
- GaussianNB, Decision Tree, and K-Means models trained on NSL-KDD
- Live Apriori association-rules pipeline
- Raspberry Pi 5 sensor with Suricata 7 + Zeek 8.2 and hardened SSH
- Custom transform script feeding live traffic to a POST /score/live endpoint
Compliance task tracking across HIPAA and NIST frameworks for healthcare SMBs
A web application built for NodeLink Technologies' medical office clients that tracks 92 compliance tasks across three frameworks — the HIPAA Security Rule, the HIPAA Privacy Rule, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Replaces manual spreadsheet tracking with a structured, repeatable workflow for SMB healthcare clients. Passed a full security audit with no leaked secrets and shipped with complete README and repository documentation.
Key Features
- 92 compliance tasks tracked across HIPAA Security Rule, Privacy Rule, and NIST CSF
- Built for real medical office clients of NodeLink Technologies
- Passed a full security audit with no leaked secrets
- Complete README and repo documentation
Automated external threat surface analysis for small businesses
A web-based security audit tool that scans a company domain for real external vulnerabilities: email authentication gaps (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), SSL/TLS misconfigurations, exposed ports, HTTP header weaknesses, and DNS hygiene issues. Calculates a weighted risk score and generates a branded PDF report — giving SMBs actionable security intelligence without hiring a consultant. Built as a lead-gen tool for NodeLink Technologies MSP prospects.
Key Features
- Automated DNS security audits (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
- SSL/TLS configuration and certificate validation
- Network port scanning and service identification
- Automated PDF report generation with risk scoring
- Lead-generation workflow for MSP services
Full-stack IT help desk ticketing system
A full-stack IT help desk ticketing system with role-based access control, database seed scripts, and automated smoke tests — covering the complete ticket lifecycle from submission through resolution.
Tamper-proof audit logging powered by smart contracts
A blockchain-based audit logging system that gives small businesses an immutable, verifiable record of security-relevant events - login attempts, permission changes, configuration updates, and data access. Each event is hashed and written to an Ethereum smart contract, making the audit cryptographically tamper-evident even from privileged insiders. Designed to help SMBs meet compliance requirements (HIPAA, SOC 2) without the cost of enterprise SIEM platforms. Serves as the active prototype for my MSIT thesis.
Command-line coding agent built on the Anthropic API
A personal command-line coding agent built on the Anthropic API, featuring a tool-use loop that enables autonomous, multi-step implementation work across a repository.
Where I've worked
Founder & IT Consultant
Built NodeLink Technologies from zero — designing service offerings, building internal tooling, and establishing the technical and operational foundation of an MSP business targeting small businesses and medical offices in the Tampa Bay area.
- Built an MSP business from zero: designed tiered-SLA service packages and onboarding workflows for SMB and medical-office clients
- Built platform infrastructure on Atera RMM and SuperOps PSA, configuring automation rules, alert thresholds, and remote access policies
- Deployed and managed endpoint protection, cloud backup (Acronis), and patch management across client environments
- Developed PowerShell and Python automation scripts to reduce manual IT support overhead and standardize maintenance
- Configured Microsoft 365 tenants (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, conditional access, MFA policies)
- Designed and maintained Ubiquiti network infrastructure, including VLAN segmentation and multi-site firewall rules
- Researched HIPAA-as-a-Service bundle models and the Tampa EHR landscape to position NodeLink for healthcare clients
Power Generation Equipment Repairer (91D)
Eight years of active-duty service maintaining mission-critical power-generation equipment in field and deployed environments, with supervisory and technical leadership responsibilities.
- Performed field and sustainment-level maintenance and overhaul on tactical, utility, and precise power-generation sets, internal combustion engines, and associated equipment up through 200KW
- Repaired and overhauled starters, alternators, generators, fuel injectors, voltage regulators, switches, and control circuits
- Supervised lower-grade soldiers and provided technical guidance on servicing, troubleshooting, and repair procedures
- Maintained accountability and readiness of mission-critical equipment under strict documentation and safety standards in field and deployed environments
